could it be because maybe the path to the file is incorrect?
like "\\myfolder\\mysubfolder..." on windows, and "/myfolder/mysubfolder/" on Mac?
Here what I found on google:

Unfortunately, this seems to be an issue with Adobe AIR on OSX. We cannot solve this in twhirl, as opening links is handled by the AIR runtime and the operating system. twhirl does not add the %00 to the end of the URL when it asks to open it.
Our tests have shown that it occurs when your a using OSX and links open in latest WebKit builds. Try choosing another default browser to check if it solves the problem for you.
If you see the %00 added to URLs on another OS/browser combination, please let us know!
source url problem
so it seems its a KNI....(Known Issue...)
Although someone said "is this solved by AIR 1.1 ? It works now for me "
Have you tried to install 1.1?
this unfortunately fixed it. Dangit. i liked webkit. Is there a way to set up that AIR opens in Safari/FF3, while my default browser is still WebKit?
Maybe you can use your own browser inside adobe Air? I made one with some tutorial its easy!
Also do you use this code:
var url = " http://www.adobe.com";
var urlReq = new air.URLRequest(url);
Code Url Adobe air
maybe its a "clean code" that won't have this "00%bug"?
