It very much depends on how much screen area / heavily
polygons are, and how many shaders your scene has. Keep to a
bare minimum to
produce the content you require.
If you have a recent PC a good test is to switch to software
render mode. If
your game is still playable then you're probably OK on most
older PCs with
dated 3D cards.
