Here’s an interesting new direction on getting our military veterans the educational skills they need to transition into the private sector workforce. In this story, we learn that the GI Bill is now covering workforce education. It’s okay if you think, “What’s new about that?” To date the educational focus has been on degreed programs, which is a great thing. But, what many people do not realize is that our public colleges have three divisions: 1.) research, 2.) degreed programs, and 3.) workforce/continuing education. However, the GI Bill only covered the 2nd one of those three. So, our vets could get a Bachelors Degree in Journalism, but if they needed to take courses to become certified in the Adobe Premiere Pro video editing app, to get a job, that money had to come out of their own pockets.
