Insofar as 3D is concerned, Unity has beaten Director completely. I've blogged about it.
I got a horrible feeling in my stomach after examining the latest Director release. It's a shame as Director is what got me into 3D in the first place. :[
Time to move on.
the problem with unity is you can only author with it on a mac unless something has changed. its quite possible it could overtake director if they came out with a windows version
I bought a mac to start work with Unity the day this new version of Director was released. Yes, Unity is coming to windows in the near future, it's been officially announced. The forums at the official site are full of ex-director users.
Director isn't terrible but it could be much better.
Some of my previous work:
Director - Small dungeon
Unity 3D - Grassy fields
the unity3D can use at Shockwave mode?
Unfortunately, Unity 3D uses a separate plugin entirely. People will have to download and install it.
If you want to try the above Unity demo in your browser, I've uploaded it to:
I spoke to someone at unity the windows version is at least a year away with no definate date. it didnt seem like it was a priority at all more like a side project
They've already hired interface designers.
I have also talked with someone at Unity two days ago and they basically said that because Unity is so popular right now thet don't have time to make it PC compatible but once things slow down they will begin working on it...no date discussed.
