Ported my software over to the newer, faster, way more ram imac. 2017 retina. 2Tb capacity, over 1Tb left. memory is more than the older imac at
16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
so, why I can open a 9K, yes, I said K file in my old imac but I cant open a simple 9K object file in my new imac? I suspect the problem is that CS5 is not playing nice on the newer imac. but Im not sure. ideas?
What happens when you try to open the file?
What mac os does your newer iMac have?
Have you applied all the cs5 updates like the photoshop 12.0.4 update?
If not you can install the latest adobe application manager and then try Help>Updates in photoshop cs5
Try opening the OBJ file in a 3D program (Blender is free, after all) and re-export it from there. This could indeed be an issue with the internal encoding of the OBJ file due to some Unicode stuff.
