I have a CD, purchased in 2006 with PDF that required a password to be used to open it. The password was contained in a .lic file. It has not been opening.How can I open it?

I inadvertently re-assigned (on the computer) the .lic to be opened with Adobe Acrobat. This has been re-assigned to .txt., but I need to know what to assign the .lic to so I can open the (very long) PDF that I purchased and used successfully for years, but not now.
