You need to create a boolean variable and then use the value of that variable to control the animation, set the value of the variable with the rollover and rollout events. Here's an example in AS2, just paste it into a frame action space and substitute the instance name of the clip that you are trying to control:

I've replaced the "thisClip" bits (of your script) with my instance name "filmstrip".
It's sending back errors though:
"Statement must appear within on/onClipEvent handler
It's ok - I put the actionscript in the movieclip itself, not on the timeline.
It works now, but not as a continuous loop - any ideas?

I'm guessing that there is some problem with the registration point of the movieClip that you are animating. Since this animation requres the cursor to be over the actual movieClip that's animating, when it jumps to the left side of the stage, it may be out of view, so you may need to change the reg point of the clip or the numbers in your code.
