          IMO, ArrayCollection is a wrapper to the Array Class providing tools and event to manipulate it.

          With ArrayCollection, you can get an item at a specific location, modify it or remove it.

          Moreover each time you modify something in the ArrayCollection instance, an mx.events.CollectionEvent.COLLECTION_CHANGE event is dispatch which permits you to know when an other object is modifying you ArrayCollection instance.

            Which implies you can easily bind arrayCollections to Flex controls like comboBoxes, Trees etc and when the underlying model changes, everything is updated automatically. Very cool feature.
