Supporting Different Audio Formats in Director

    JR SP
      Hello,

I have a desktop Director application that acts as a search engine for audio libraries. It allows a user to listen to audio files of different formats (AIFF,MP3,WAV). I am using the internal sound object in Director to play these files. Everything worked fine until last month when the client decided to re-encode their entire AIFF library to use Big Endian encoding. Now the Director app cannot play those files.

I can make the application play them if I use a Quicktime object. However this would require that the machine have quicktime installed. It is not an issue on a Mac but on a PC it is because I don't want to force an installation of another application to make mine run.

My question is, are there any xtras out there that can play high fidelity audio and work both on mac and pc platforms?

      Thanks,

      Jeff
