    AIR application automatic udpate

I'm working on an app for use within the company I work for and want it to auto-update whenever a new version is released. I have this functionality working, but it requires a XML file (in addition to the application descriptor) that I have to maintain that has the most current version number. I'm looking for a way to avoid the use of this extra XML file and instead inspect the .air file itself to see what version it contains, but haven't been able to find anything on how to do that. It says in the Flex help that this is possible, but doesn't go into how. Basically the only thing I want to maintain is the version number in the application descriptor file. Anyone have any ideas?
