Adobe has disabled the cs3 activation servers, so you'll need to uninstall your old cs3 and use the new non activation cs3 and new serial number.

I have a new serial number for Photoshop cs3 (problems with a reactivation message from hell) and have gone through Adobe's procedures but I've have been stopped at the uninstalling of cs3. The only cs3 file in the utilities folder I was directed to is the cs3 photoshop installer. It does not uninstall, leaving me with the conclusion that I am missing a piece of software. Can I download the uninstaller from the Adobe website?

What operating system are you using?
Do you have any other adobe software installed besides cs3?

I have been trying to reactivate cs3 with the new serial number provided on my Mac mini (Yosemite). The activation screen will not allow me to proceed with activation. I performed these steps:
1. uninstalled cs3 using the utilities program
2. downloaded and opened the Akamai_NetSession_Installer.dmg
3. entered the new serial number provided by Adobe
4. screen for activation showed the new serial number but would not activate from any of the options shown.
I still have cs3 loaded on a G5 running Snow Leopard.
What else can I try in order to resolve this issue?
Thank you.

This might solve it. Sometimes the old serial number is stored (cached) and blocks the new one.
Navigate to the cache folder and manually remove the cache.db file.
Mac OS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/cache/
When prompted for serial number, enter the new one. And click on Never Register.
Restart your computer.
