When will Adobe support the new Sony a7r III in CS6 and Bridge?
Dan
They won't. CS6 is a done deal and will not receive any further updates ever, including no newer versions of ACR. If you want to use your camera, you really have to upgrade your software.

when will Adobe update its Photoshop CC 2018 Raw converter to support the new recently launched Sony A 7 III (i.e. the Mark III, not the A 7 R III) - anyone ?

As far as i can tell, those two you listed are the same camera or Sony A7R III (ILCE-7RM3).
Anyway, i only see the one on the Sony website and it is supported in camera raw 10.1 or later, which is compatible with photoshop cc 2018. (actually camera raw 10.2 is the latest camera raw)

alas no, the A7III appears to be a distinct and separate version of the ILCE family, and the latest camera raw version (10.2) unfortunately does not convert the ARWs which the A7III produces. Thanks anyway.

Here's a post confirming support of the Sony A7R mark 3 files.
RAW import of Sony A7R mark 3 files
Did you run the arw files thru any other software before trying to open them in adobe camera raw?
What operating system are you using?

There are some options besides upgrading.
You could use the free adobe dng converter to convert the Sony a7r III ARW files to dng copies, which will then open in cs6 or preview in bridge.
windows
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows : Adobe DNG Converter 10.1
mac
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 10.1
Or use a third party plugin like this:

This is a very costly compromise taking away the advantages of using RAW files in Photoshop.

Not sure what you mean, but adobe dng files are of the same quality as the originals, just that inconvenience of having to convert the arw files to dngs first.
Anyway, as Mylenium has already written, adobe is no longer supporting/updating photoshop cs6 and that includes camera raw.

Bummer!
