runs WAY TOO SLOW!!

15 secs to launch.

20+secs just to get to the print options.

20+ secs to print.

How to fix? Prior readers had NONE of these problems.

I have tried repair and no change. Tried update and it says I have the latest.

As per the description above, the print process is very slow in the latest version of Adobe Reader, Is that correct?

Please refer and try the steps in the following KB doc which discusses the similar issue Acrobat DC Pro very slow in printing under windows 10

It sometimes takes several minutes to prepare a print file

Check for the latest printer drivers. You may also try to Repair the Adobe Reader from Help menu>Repair installation(only for Windows). If the issue persists, please use Acrobat cleaner tool to remove the Reader Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Restart the machine, and install the latest Reader from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Printer KB does not apply.

Windows 7 pro 64bit

DC version is 2018.009.20050, later version than on the download link you provided.

This is NOT just a printing issue. Launch is slow, opening a file is slow. My Acrobat X standard is way faster than this reader!
