I am working on an epub with a full page video.
In indesign, I do have Controller set to None.
Both in iBooks and the online version have the progress bar showing.
What am I doing wrong?
The OP does not need an alternative to SWF. EPUB is being used but there was a misunderstanding about the capabilities of the media panel for EPUB.

You’re assuming that SWF commands will work with EPUB. They don’t.

I agree with Bob. SWF use Flash technology which is fading away, and has limited utility. EPUB is based on HTML. Totally different technologies.

Is there a way to hide the progress bar?

None I know of. I supposed there may be some way of diving into the code but these things are typically based on the app that you’re viewing the video on.

Okay, I'm just cheating it by making the video bigger than the screen...

If you want an alternative to SWF, it might be worth you having a look at in5: Export HTML5 from InDesign with in5 - Home
