Two questions
1. I am looking for the best application to create flyers for events. Is Adobe Illustrator the best choice? If not, what would you suggest?
2. I am also in the hunt for a good video creation editing tool to mix with sound? Suggestions? (Be kind..)
Thanks!
As for the sizes, please check with the print service provider for their requirements. Might be different for each of them. Always good to ask what exactly they're expecting.
For this kind of stuff Illustrator should be a good choice. You can do the logo directly in the app, you can do some nice text styling, but lists or tables would be a little cumbersome. Multiple artboards is possible as well.
You could even have different flyers all in one file if you like. Although I wouldn't recommend it in

What kind of flyers are you referring to?
Lot of text on them?
Multi pages?
As for the video creation app: Premiere is professional video editing. But you'll have to learn a lot. You might want to visit the Premiere forum and ask there. You should give them some detail of what exactly you need to do. There are a couple of other apps available that do the job as well.

Thank you for your response. The flyers would typically contain logos that I would need to create and some text but not necessarily text intensive as in paragraphs. Mainly | Title: Date: Time: Location: Statement of Purpose: Logo: | They would be front and back and preferably mirrored on 8 1/2 by 11 paper, landscape....by that I mean so you could duplicate the flyer on one 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper, landscape...front and back. What size would that be....8 1/2 x 5 1/2 for each flyer once cut......

As a general rule if you're doing page layout it is better to use a program that is designed for it—such as InDesign. While, as Monica says, Illustrator is fine for doing simple layouts with natively drawn logos it lacks many features that InDesign has for "automating" and simplifying the layout process. You can check out this link: InDesign tutorials | Learn how to use InDesign CC to learn more about it.

It may be useful to know that people making flyers will often use the 3 apps InDesign Illustrator and Photoshop, each tool has its strengths. Video makers often use Premiere and After Effects. best if all, all of these come with a Creative Cloud subscription.
The bad news for a beginner, if you are a beginner, is that these are all top-of-the-line professional tools, complex and powerful. If you try to use them without training you may find it just baffling, especially the video apps. For all apps expect to need, and pay for, a lot of professional training.
