1. Re: Updated today Photoshop CC 2018 - Program freezes when attempting to apply brightness / contrast
SteveWeinrebe Feb 7, 2018 9:11 AM (in response to Jackie2881)1 person found this helpfulIs the problem only with that one file, or with any file open in Photoshop?
Does Photoshop crash only when you apply the Brightness/Contrast adjustment, or does it crash when you apply any other adjustment too (Levels, Curves, Vibrance, etc.)?
Are you applying Brightness/Contrast from the Image menu > Adjustments, or as an Adjustment Layer (from the Adjustments panel)?

Hi Jackie2881,
Sorry that Photoshop is not responding when you adjust brightness / contrast on your images.
Does that happen with all the images and all file formats like Raw, Jpeg and Tiff(as you've mentioned)?
Could you please post a screenshot of the error message prompt saying that "Photoshop is attempting to load a tiff file"?
Thanks,
Akash

stormweasel Mar 29, 2018 1:09 PM (in response to SteveWeinrebe)I have the same issue. Everything is fine but when I try to adjust the brightness of a layer the icon changes to the eyedropper tool and I'm frozen.

stormweasel Mar 29, 2018 3:30 PM (in response to stormweasel)Just a follow up. I went into Preferences and disabled Tools> Rich Tooltips and Tools > Tooltips. I switched Performance > Advanced Processor Settings > Drawing Mode to Basic and under Technology Previews I unchecked everything except Enable Preserve Details 2.0
I am not 100% certain if one of these helped but at least for the past 2 hours it has not happened again.

These are definitely going to improve the performance. Let us know how it goes.
