    Can't place images

So, I've been using Photoshop for a while now, and suddenly I can't place images on top of backgrounds without them showing up very small. When I try to resize them, Photoshop lags out and the picture will disappear. I can put the image on top of another image, but even that has its limits. Ive asked my friends for help, but they don't know what to do.

If Photoshop suddenly start performing strangely try resetting your Photoshop Preferences.  A corrupt preference  file can cause some strange problems.   If I do a lot of Path editing suddenly adding a custom shape layer may take several minutes when normally it takes a second or two.  Resetting my Preferences restarting Photoshop will fix my problem. Corrupt preferences are so common Adobe added a startup shortcut to reset preferences and in newer versions of Photoshop added a button in Edit preferences to reset preferences next time you start Photoshop.
