I am using Acrobat 9 Pro - Version 9.0.0. For years, the Typewriter tool has worked fine. Recently, I can enter text using the Typewriter tool, but then when I click outside the Typewriter box, the text disappears. I have tried to save the file as PDF Optimised and changes the Transparency settings, but that does not work. Why is this happening after so many years, and how do I fix it. I have not consciously changed any default settings in the program.
As per the description above, the Typewriter tool is not working in Acrobat 9 Pro, Is that correct?

You should at the very least update to the latest 9.x version available, which is 9.5.5.
