Saving Image to library not working.

      Hi There,

I am new to photoshop and have been struggling with this particular problem for 2 days now and I am ready to throw the laptop out the window. My lack of understanding of how things work and how they act, as well as properties of certain things, has a lot to do with it.  But here it goes.  I have an image that I downloaded off of PNG Tree.  I took that image into Illustrator where I removed parts of it I didn't like, so I was basically left with a watercolour splodge. I then dragged that splodge into the library panel and labelled it Patch.  I then decided it needed a few colour adjustments, so I opened Photoshop where I then clicked and dragged my image onto my page.  I added a Hue/Saturation layer as well as a photo filter layer to change up the colour.  For some reason when I click and drag that altered image into the library panel it says "this layer is already linked to content in a library".  The image updates itself in photoshop in the library but if I attempt to use that image in Illustrator via the library panel it doesn't carry over the changes.  I am not sure how to save the altered image to the library, so as to continue to add other things to the image in Illustrator

Double click on content in a Library to open it in the application that created it. Make the edits, close and save. This will update the content in the library and all of the documents that it is linked to.

Dragging library content to the Photoshop canvas creates a link back to the original content from the library. The layers panel shows the cloud icon in the corner of the layer. This tells you that the content is linked from a library.

            Hi Theresa,

            Thank you for your reply!

When I double click the content, it opens it in Illustrator.  But what I am looking to do is change the colour in photoshop, Save it to the library and use the altered image in Illustrator to add other shapes and text to design the logo I am after, but when I save it as a file rather than in the library (Which is what I want to do) it adds this white page behind the image and moves the entire white page and the image when I try to move it. As far as I am aware Illustrator doesn't have abilities to add hue/saturation and photo filter layers to the image?

If you want all of the edits you made in Photoshop saved to the library, then just select all of the layers (except the background layer), and drag those into the library panel.

You can also create a new library item by right clicking on the layer with the linked item and choosing rasterize. This will break the link to the original item. Then you can make changes and save it as a new item. If you make something in Photoshop, when you double click it will open again in PS. You'll have to drag and drop it into Illustrator to make yet another, new graphic.

Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much!!! It works now.  I thought that by selecting the layer with the image it would still link it.  I had no idea leaving the background out of the selection would help.  Thank you again!
