Is this still a no go? Or was it added to Air 2.0?
I see on the mac it should be as easy as updating the info.plist of the app to have URL Types but not sure what it takes on windows and linux.
I could really use this feature built in. If not then I would have to write native code to get the same effect.
This is not supported in AIR 2. Please submit this request at ideas.adobe.com. Thank you!
It's possible to use native process call to register protocol handler.
Just be very careful, because malicious parties could pass some weird data into your app: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa767914(VS.85).aspx#prot_sec
Another issue is that if you send this URL in plain e-mail it won't be "clickable".
I already did that in Pascal (Delphi) for windows (you just have to add a key in the registry) and for Mac OS with Cocoa, it call my cocoa console application and then call my air application with arguments.
