Hi,
I recently updated to Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 and the project that I was working on in the 2017 version opened with a lot of offline media files. When I tried to relink these, only the audio came back and no video.
I then tried to import the videos again into the project but they only imported as audio files, even though they are MP4 videos. I tried creating a new project to see if the same thing would happen and it did as only the audio got imported.
I don't understand what happened here and would like some help to get them imported correctly so that I can relink them and get my project back the way it was.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Farah

Try Step 2h first, and then 2i.

Hi, I am having the same problem. When I try to relink the media, PP says that it is an only audio file. The clips that it is having trouble with are standard definition, while the rest of the sequence is HD or 4K. Should I artificially increase the "size" of the lower definition clips so PP will be able to recognize the video?

When you open a new sequence, do you see all the premiere pro encoding presets or just a few ones l;ike DvPal and NTSC ?
Can you send a screenshot of what you get when you click on open new sequence before hitting enter ?
I guess you are missing some codecs not reading the video files
did you try installing quick time player ?

Good Morning All,
Basically have the same problem. Never had any problems with premiere prior to updating it but once I did, I couldn't import m4v. videos. When I would drag the video file into premiere, I would only get the audio coming in. Not sure what to do here and I hope theres a solution.
Thanks guys.

I think if you close out of premiere and rename the file (leaving the .mp4) you'll find that this will now allow you to import both audio and video...
Why this happens.. I have no idea...

This happens frequently if you update a project into the new version. You need to reestablish the file paths in that case. It's definitely one thing to check if you are having this issue.
That said, a lot of customers are experiencing this issue and this workaround will not work for them. It's a bug. Thanks for the comment, though!
Cheers,
Kevin

It sounds like you are hitting a bug. Here's what I would do in order of severity:
I will mark this as the current solution, as there are no other known workarounds at this time. Please add your comment and upvote here: Fix mp4 Importing – Adobe video & audio apps
