Will SSD drive make editing faster?

      Hi Guys,

I have a quick question so I'm just going to get to it...

I am editing from a early 2015 MacBook Pro with a 13-inch retina display.

Processor: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

      Memory 8 GB 1867 DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Graphics 6100 1536 GB

I know that this setup is crappy to edit on to begin with, but I don't have the extra money laying around right now to buy a new computer. Editing is of course pretty slow with this, but my question is if editing from a SSD external drive will make the editing process faster?

Because I only have the minimum HDD storage on my MacBook I started editing from external hard drives such as the WD Elements (2TB). Those only have 5800 or so rpm and I read that for video editing I need at least 7200rpm. The Samsung T5 is supposed to transfer data at up to 500 and something mb/s. Which for me would be 400 and something as I could only use the 3.0 USB connection.

So my question is: Does anyone have experience or know if buying the T5 SSD drive will increase my editing speed a little bit at least?

      Thank you in advance!
