Passing command line arguments to Adobe Air app on OSX

Let's say I have an Adobe Air App installed on my OSX called Foo that is located in /Applications/Foo.app and it's currently running. I want to pass in a command line argument to it to tell the app to do something in particular. I pass something to it by calling /Applications/Foo.app/Contents/MacOS/Foo -- foo=bar.

For some reason, when I pass in the command line argument to the App, a separate Air App Icon pops up from my dock for a split second and then it goes away. My theory is that for some reason Air thinks that I am trying to launch a separate app even though I am trying to pass the command line argument to the App that is currently running on my computer.

Is there a way to stop having a separate Icon pop up for a split second?
