We apologize for the inconvenience caused, as per the description above you are not able to open PDF files as getting an error message "there was an error while reading a stream", Is that correct?
Please check for any pending updates of Acrobat from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after installing the updates and try opening the PDF files and see if this brings any difference.
Are you trying to create a PDF from a scanner or trying to open a PDF using Acrobat Pro? If you are using any scanner to scan a document as a PDF and getting the error message, please make sure that you have the latest drivers and firmware of the scanner installed.
If you are getting the error message while opening the file with Acrobat, please check for updates, install them and repair the Acrobat from help>repair installation.
