I am operating with Windows 7 operating system. There are .docx files created by someone else and I cannot get Acrobat to recognize the files in open or create a form. How do I fix this?

It's the latest version of Adobe Acrobat DC.
Unfortunately I do not know the version of office because I did not create them. Is their incompatibility with older versions?
Could be. How exactly are you trying to open the file? Are you just dragging and dropping it into Acrobat?
