It strikes me that the nature of a shadow means that it is only on one or
two sides, and I suspect that most drop shadow tools are set up that way.
What effect are you after? If you just want a border around all four
sides, click on the 'Canvas Size' button, add twice the margin size you
want to the existing canvas size, and set the canvas color to the color
you want. If you want something with fancier edges, add a rectangle
shape the size of the image, set the fill to transparent and the stroke
to whatever look you want. Then hit the 'Fit Canvas' button.

3. Re: Drop shadow
JoeDaSilva Mar 15, 2008 7:30 AM (in response to Newsgroup_User)I use, as do many others of late, a zero-distance drop shadow. Using the Live-Filter tool on the right side of the properties panel at the bottom. Just set the distance to zero (upper left side in the panel). -

Newsgroup_User Mar 15, 2008 12:05 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)Thanks for all of the replies, pixlor, Joe, Joey ...
I'm interested in trying your suggestion (below) Joey ... hoever, I don't
have a 'Live-Filter' tool. ? I have Fireworks 8
My options are:
Adjust Color
Bevel and Emboss
Blur
Noise
Other
Shadow and Glow
Sharpen
and I don't find the 'Live-Filter' tool under any of them.
Thanks

Newsgroup_User Mar 15, 2008 12:55 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)'glow' does a nice job ... gives dimension, that's what I was after. Thanks
so much.
I'll be interested to learn more about the "Live-Filter tool" ... sounds
like a good thing to know about.

In FW8, they're referred to as Live Effects and you will find them in
the Property inspector.
