is it possible to define the page title in a template as editable? for example, i would like the default page title in the template to be the site name. when i edit or create a page based on the template i want to add more text to the title so i have something like "site name: contact us".

This is the sign of an improperly made template.

          Do this -

Create a new page (Basic HTML).
Use FILE | Save as Template....
Look at the code in the head region of the page, particularly the editable
region around the <title> tag, and the other editable region in the head
          called "head".
Make your template file look like that.

Always use FILE | Save as Template when you create your templates and you
          won't have this problem again.

thank you. the file was from a site converted from golive. i guess something went wrong during the conversion. i'll try to fix the template.

It should be easy with the clue I have posted.

Suggestion: To fix your Template, create a new Template following Murray's
instructions. Then compare the code in the Head region and make your old
Template match your new one. Get it?

Having the same text across multiple pages (site name: page name), where as "site name" is always the same - will get you penalized by Google as far as I understand.
