Yes it is. Adobe doesn't seem to cope with this, but as this is the first time I've used Adobe D probably user error. Can you give me some directions please?

Are you trying to reduce the page size while printing the document or trying to crop the pdf view? Are you working on Adobe Acrobat DC or Reader DC?

There is actually a better way to scale pages than printing to the Adobe PDF printer: If you have a recent version of Acrobat DC Pro, you can use a preflight profile to scale the content: Scaling Page Content in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC - KHKonsulting LLC

Preflight only works with Acrobat DC Pro not Standard and for sure not with the free reader. But it’s a very powerful tool.

yes, just to make sure that the user does not try finding preflight with his Adobe Reader...
