    Question for Alan Wallace

    Level 7
      Hi Alan
      I've posted this a number of times under different thread headings so I
      apologise for doing it again as I really need you to explain what's
      happening.

      I was following your Flash Video Tutorial for making a link from a banner
      using Flash CS3 and an invisible button.

      This is the code you say to insert

      LinkButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickHandler);
      function clickHandler(event:MouseEvent) :void{
      navigateToURL(new URLRequest(" http://www.mysite.co.uk"));
      }

      Obviously I've put in the button instance name and I'd put in the relevant
      URL to link to. Apparently it should work but I keep getting a
      'the class or interface 'MouseEvent' could not be loaded'
      error message which stops it from jumping to the URL.

      I've checked all the spaces, commas and brackets and as far as I can see
      there aren't any errors. Have you any idea what's happening here?

      For reference I'm running Flash CS3 on a Mac under Leopard 10.5.2.

      I really need help on this as my client deadline's looming and I need to
      find out how to solve it.

      Thanks
      Garry

          Hi,
          Sorry i have missed your other threads. You should have just emailed me.

          Ok it looks to me like you have maybe published your movie to actionscript 2.0. In the publish settings set them to 3.0 and test your movie.
          Let me know how you get on.
          Thanks
          Alan

            Thanks Alan, that did the trick. It's great to talk to someone who knows
            what they're doing! :-)

            One other thing. How do I get the _target set to self because it's a page
            within an existing site?

            Finally, what is your email as I didn't find it from the tutorial site.
            Great tutorials by the way.

            Regards
            Garry

              Ahhh I've solved it. There's always something on the web and it always
              involves brackets, commas and semi colons.

              LinkButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickHandler);
              function clickHandler(event:MouseEvent) :void{
              navigateToURL(new URLRequest("/en/MyInternalPage.aspx"),"_self");
              }

              Will you be doing most of your tutorials in CS3 now or do you still prefer
              the older versions?

                Hi Alan
                Sorry to trouble you again but the client's just requested a version which
                can be saved down with Flash 3 and 4 compatibility. That obviously cuts out
                everything I've done under Actionscript 3 as it all stops working. Great!

                Can you help me out with what I'd do to the code to get it working.
                I'm learning... Slowly.

                Your help would be much appreciated.

                Garry

                  Hi,
                  I dont know the code for flash 3 but for flash 4 you would need to put the code onto the button (ie select the button onstage and then open your actions panel).

                  on(release){
                  getURL(" http://www.alanwallace.co.uk",_self);
                  }

                  Hope this helps
                  Alan

                    Thanks Alan
                    That's what the web company I was working with advised as well. It worked:-)
