CS Illustrator crashes anytime I go to open a file.

I've restarted several times, resent preferences, and no luck. Now what????

Which version of Illustrator?

Has the program worked in the past, and what has changed since then? (what have you updated?)

did not update anything.

my ai program is up to date.

i tied to open a zipped file yesterday afternoon. After the first crash, everytime i restarted and tried to open an illustrator file it is crashing.
