Some cameras record only X number of minutes to a single clip on card, and therefore split long shots into multiple clip on card. AVCHD media is typically captured this way, but it can happen with other formats also depending on the camera.
With any media that does this, it is especially necessary to
- copy the ENTIRE card and its folder structure onto the computer drives and not just copy the clips from folders on the card to the computer drives ...
- Import/ingest that media via the Media Browser or by right-clicking a blank area of the Project panel selecting import, then navigating to the top folder of the media and importing all.
This normally gets around the problem you're having.

So looking at more footage apparently my Hero 5 Black does the same thing. It doesn't drop audio, but it cuts the long sequence into clips.
