Have you installed the 6.14 update? Go to Help>System Info… to verify your installed version.
Are you running the latest version of Lightroom 6? Check for updates using Help > Updates...

Yes, I downloaded LR update last night, opened LR and it was back to normal.
However, this morning I opened LR (but should have checked that is was
version 6.4 - stupid) and the message returned, freezing the software again.
I erased LR again, will reload it, download the update and hope that works.

That's odd. Let us know what happens when you reinstall it.
You may also try to Optimize Catalogue (if you get it up and running) using File > Optimize Catalog...
Thank you for following up. I erased my LR 6, reloaded it then to went adobe site to download update, opened LR successfully. But, after coming back to open it again next day, I had the same error message. The crash report again called it EXC_CRASH sigbart. I checked the LR app info and it did not update to 6.14. It was still Version 101445. I called Adobe and they suggested the update, did it again and the same thing happened. I must be doing something wrong at the download end as this is the third time that my LR 6 will not update. Any suggestions please.
