    Captions gone with PSE2018

    RichardSnow Level 1

I'm currently running Photoshop Elements 13 on Windows 10. I just downloaded and installed a trial version of Photoshop Elements 2018.  I brought up the PSE2018 organizer, and my 10,000 captions are missing.  What may I have done wrong?

      Thanks,

      Richard Snow

Did you convert the PSE13 catalog, or just import?

Go to File >> Manage Catalogs

Click Open and search for your earlier catalog.

Thank you for the response 99jon.  I did not do anything explicitly with the catalog.  I simply followed the installation instructions on the download page.  The installer apparently takes care of whatever needs to be done with the catalog.  (Though not properly it seems.) I was asked one question during the installation.  Unfortunately I didn't save the question.  It said something about there being something from pse10 in the database and asked if it should be converted or a new one created.  I responded that a new one should be created, as I feared doing something which would break my current PSE13.

You can convert your previous version catalog. The previous version catalog remains intact, it only appends "1"  to the catalog name of previous versions. With catalog conversion all your organizing metaphors would be carried forward.

Thank you for the helpful reply.  Since posting my initial question, I've discovered that PSE2018's organizer still does not comprehend having a 4k TV monitor as its display.  It still looks like PSE13 in this regard.  Many parts of the display are almost too small to read.  This is only the case with PSE; everything else I use displays properly on my monitor.  Due to this failing, I'm not planning to use PSE2018.  I'll just stick with PSE13 until Adobe fixes this organizer problem in some later version.

As a matter of fact, the organizer is better than the editor in this respect. It recognizes the Windows settings for your display. You can opt for 125, 150% scaling for fonts in Windows. Much more flexible and the settings are generally optimal for other softwares. By the way, no difference between PSE13 and PSE2018 in this respect.

Thank you Michel for your advice.  I checked, and I have been running with "Make everything bigger" set to 125%.  I fiddled around with this, trying different settings, then set it back to 125% and closed the window.  I started up PSE13, and it was perfect!  The size of the print was very readable.  Now I'm mystified as to why my fiddling with the setting, but leaving "settings" with it unchanged, had this effect on PSE13.  I have not rebooted since my fiddling, so I fear after rebooting, it will return to having the tiny character size.  I'll post here what happens after the next reboot.  Thanks again.
