Auto Tracking With Masks (Other than Gaussian Blur)

I am working on a project that requires me to censor license plates.

A requirement is to use black boxes rather than Gaussian Blur to censor them.

The problem is that I can't AUTO track the plates. I'd have to manually set points in order to track with any sort of mask as far as I know.

      So the ultimate question is:

Can I make Gaussian Blur a flat black color rather than a literal blur?

      or

Is there a way to auto track objects with a separate colored mask?

      All help is appreciated.

P.S. I read somewhere the solution might be restricted to After Effects, but I'd like to see if anyone knows anything else.

          Why is that?

Put the clip on the timeline. Create an Opacity Mask that cuts out the plate.

          Track the plate.

When completed, click the checkbox for Invert.

Now you should have a black hole where the plate was.

Adjust the Mask Feather and Mask Expansion to taste.

If you want to replace the black with a color, move the clip up to V2 and place a color matte on V1 below the source clip.
