Hi. when i try to play back my 4k video in ae, the preview is black. when i scrub threw it, I can see it perfectly. when i play it, i can only hear the audio. please help. ae cc 2018.

Set the Composition Panel Magnification Ratio (bottom left) to 50% or less and comp panel resolution to Auto. That should give you the same playback performance as HD. You might even want to have the Magnification Ratio set to 25%. I have never found a good reason to have comp panel resolution set to anything but Auto.
If that doesn't fix the problem it could be a GPU driver issue or a codec issue.
Take a close look at the UI and hover over the icons. You will never learn AE unless you spend some serious time studying the manual and looking at tutorials by folks that really know what they are doing. About half of the AE how-to videos on YouTube are pretty useless attempts by amateurs to explain how they managed to get something cool done. Vet your trainers, use the Search Help field at the top right corner of AE (not the help menu), and you'll be ok.
The screen shows black, no audio, simply nothing plays. The store works. I have done exactly nothing today other than download two movies so I have zero explanation.
I'm on the latest ITunes version.
I'll be travelling for a few weeks and be off a proper WiFi connection and this is annoying me to no end. Anyone else have had this issue? What can I do to resolve it essentially in the next 7 hours? I'm desperate
