Just started getting involved in filming events such as celebrations, interviews and short clips of random subjects.  Slowly investing and building up my equipment as I go.  Would like to progress into short promotionalvideos for businesses and hopefully get paid for my time.  Wondering if anyone has had similar experience at this level and could pass on practical advice e.g. approaching companies, what dialogue to use etc.

my boss does short tours of the business

puts them on YT

and then embeds them in his network of websites

and then charges them money for them.

He also publishes a tourist magazine with their ad in it.

Check out DVInfo.  Both the articles, and forums.  The regulars there are from all levels from enthusiastic amateurs to feature length movie professionals, and they are remarkably friendly and helpful all things considered.  Introduce yourself to Ty Ford and the lads on the All Things Audio forum.  Order Ty's Audio Bootcamp Field Guide, and ask for an invite to the Facebook group of the same name.  If you don't already obsess about your audio, then start doing so — an audience will put up with poor visuals but never poor audio. Ask them to critique your content on YouTube, and take the comments on the chin.  You'll get much better, a lot more quickly this way.
