Toolbox is visible, but tools aren't enabled. What happened?

I opened an existing document and the toolbox is in sight, but the tools are grayed out (inactive). I tried opening a new document - same thing. I rebooted the computer - same thing. I de-installed InDesign and re-installed it; still nothing. Looked in preferences and nothing jumped out at me. Working in CC2018. Deadline fast approaching! Help!

Nevermind. I enabled "touch" mode, then re-enabled keyboard mode, and they all came back. WEIRD.
