The boss decided we need to shoot our projects in 4k. They got me a Dell XPS with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti card which I was told is a very capable system.
upon importing some of the 4k files and trying to work with them in PrPro they barely play in the source or program monitor whether added to the project or not. The clips are relatively short (less than 1 min duration).
I've read about proxies for editing 4k but I'm confused on a few things there...wouldnt that defeat the purpose of having the 4k clips? (my understanding is that with the greater resolution you have more flexibility when editing so when exported to 1080 it still looks good).
Second question is are proxies the best way to make it possible to edit in my situation? or is there a different setting I need to change, or something else I'm unaware of?
Ive included as much info on the computer as I can find below. Another note, I looked in the PrPro settings and it showed that there was 10 gb of ram for PrPro and 5 for other things? Any help is much appreciated.
