The checkbox is gone since the latest update.

You can use the shortcut CMD+K or CTRL+K to add a checkmark

There have been allot of complaints about the removal of the checkbox, see here                  Where has the check box gone?!

Hi All,

In the latest update of Acrobat DC, we have modernize the commenting experience and at the same time, made it very clean and intuitive to use. As part of that, the checkbox is moved to the right click menu of the comment.

Open comment>Right Click>Add Checkmark

Please also note that both the sort and filter options are available for the check mark.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused and will consider adding the check mark by default for future updates of Acrobat DC.

There is a third party plugin that will let you do checkmarks in one click. Acrobat/Reader -- Comments Review Tools

They've actually slashed the price just to help those who have been upgraded to Acrobat DC 2019. It has a ton of great features!

Also, the Acrobat keyboard shortcut for "Mark as Checked" is Shift + K (which obviously won't work in you have your cursor blinking in one of the comments).

Hi All,

With the latest release of Acrobat on 11th December, 2018, this issue has been addressed.

If your product is not already updated, you can manually do so from within the product. Click on the menu Help-> Check for updates.

We have provided a preference “Show checkbox” under commenting preference to show the checkbox.

Feel free to connect in case of any query.

Regards,
Ammar

LATEST

With the latest update, the behavior was sort of restored back to what it was prior to the. After updating, you'll need to go into Preferences > Comments > and choose to show the checkmarks. Then every time you click on a comment, the checkbox will be displayed. So technically, it still takes two clicks, but that's better than three clicks.
