It's javascript, not Java, just so you'll know. The two are as different as
night and day.
You would need to do nothing special to migrate these sites from EW to DW,
other than the define the site in DW so that the local site points to the
root of the EW site, and the remote site connection info is the same as you
had in EW.
I'm curious - why are you abandoning it?

2. Re: Expression Web to Dream weaver
INVT Jan 25, 2008 2:53 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)That is a loaded question but here it goes...
For many years I have used FrontPage since 98 and really liked the ease of use with forms and well most of my small business clients all worked with MS products so it was a no brainer for them to buy it and me to train them. I Recently had to move to EW because of the FP discontinuance. This was not good for my clients so that was like a big bomb shell exploding in my face actually lost a few, I know how is that my fault but these clients depended on me to consult them on what to buy, most though did flinch since I was able to migrate there sites to EW and they were able to upgrade.
To start with because I create other media like broadcast video media and print media I was enlightened by the Creative Production Suite and how much it improved my work flow with all of the dynamic links and seamless compatibility, DVD production Yata Yata Yata as well as the resources available. I kept visiting the Dreamweaver website through the bridge interface and was totally liken the Dreanweaver interface and all of the functionality it offered like the form validation its seamless integration with other Adobe products and the spry stuff. See before EW you had validation using the FP extensions directly in the form fields now you have to use asp.net but need a programmer to develop the server side stuff which I don't have or can do at the moment which I am learning PHP trying anyway and XML but I needed results now so I made the jump. I trained my clients to use FP and it had worked perfectly because they could rely on the FP server extensions to add the basic functions like validation or a simple forms and well other stuff. With Dreamweaver and the Contribute product my clients can get back control inexpensively and with out to years of programming classes, which I know I need to do but they shouldn't have to.
For the most part I decided recently to go Adobe totally and plunged into Adobe Web Premium and wow was it worth it everything I do is associated with all the software products it came with and I use everyone of them to create, design and provide functionality for my web customers. I have a new client that was totally on board after showing her how Contribute works and they took back the new EW package they bought for the Contribute product. Also I use Flash allot and the import PSD file option is well way cool for work flow. I mean copy paste from PS into Dreamweaver and Flash object support in Dreamweaver and the way it automatically makes all of the folders and organizes your assets and other files. I liked the way Dreamweaver works it gives you what you need as you need not everything at the same time meaning the tabbed menus. It truly works well for me since I am a designer and not a programmer. I mean back in the day FP had this clunky photo gallery and it did not work at all and it was fustrating. I just used Fireworks to create a photo gallery and well very cool and it works so what can I say.
I just saw that Cheryl Wise has Joined up here as one of your ACE's and that makes me even happier to see because the training I bought for EW was here training it was good by the way. I'd like to hear here take on what I just sad here. I mean I don't expect here to knock EW it's just that it was not for me and did not offer functions for a designer like me that I could use without knowing some type of programming.
Sorry for the long explanation but thats it in a nutshell.
Thanks for you help and interest.
My business is better because of Adobe, actually I think I want my middle name to be Adobe!
Kidding but close.

Really, you could continue to use FP until you HOST tells you that they are
discontinuing FP Server extensions. Just because it's no longer being
developed is not really a reason to jump.
Cheryl is a good gal. We are happy to have her on board here.

4. Re: Expression Web to Dream weaver
INVT Jan 25, 2008 3:59 PM (in response to Newsgroup_User)I am not dumping it entirely just for new clients I am using Dreamweaver and Contribute.
I still have clients that use the extensions and while they see my point they still have to make that decision themselves. As a matter of fact I debated whether to move to EW form FP originally but realized I better move now before they cut the cord with extensions and well came to another crossroad after getting a taste of it
I told my clients who still use FP or EW that the servers have not totally abandoned MS Extensions they just won't have any support directly from MS and eventually for some sevres it will be phased out for some and some they might not.
I have to continue to support EW for my clients so it's not going anywhere just yet. -

Just migrated one of my EW websites went well! Thanks
Just one or two things that are odd but I will try fixing and start another thread if I have any problems.
