Is there a way to add sequential numbers to individual pdfs when combining several pdfs into 1 document?
This is a job for a JavaScript programmer. Should be a quite easy task, adding a serial, printing, changing the serial, printing...

Hi Alq,
If I understand your query correctly, you are willing to add numbers in the pdf document? If yes, then this can be done with Acrobat following the steps suggested in the help document here- Add headers, footers, and Bates numbering to PDFs, Adobe Acrobat
Or you can use the "Organize Pages" feature to rearrange the order- Rotate, move, delete, and renumber PDF pages in Adobe Acrobat
Let us know if you are referring to something else.

Akanchha

I would like to add number 1 to first page of first pdf, number 2 to first page of second pdf, number 3 to first page of 3rd pdf, etc.
Any way to handle that?
thanks

Use the Header/Footer option via Acrobat. You'll be able to add page numbers specifiying when the numbers start, what number to start the numbering on, and where on the page to place the numbers. You can customize the content of the header/footer as well.

I think what he's looking to do is the same issue I'm having. It's usually called "copy set numbering". You have 1 PDF with 10 pages. You need to make 20 copies, and on each copy you need it to have a different (serial, increasing) number. So on document 1, each page will have "0001, Page 1 of 10", "0001, Page 2 of 10", "0001, Page 3 of 10", etc. One document 2, each page will have "0002, Page 1 of 10", "0002, Page 2 of 10", "0002, Page 3 of 10", etc.
Bates numbering is NOT what is needed. Bates numbering will add a "page number" to each page of a document (allowing you to combine multiple documents/different PDFs with consecutive page numbers). What we need is a way to add serial/consecutive number to each new printing of a document with the number being the same for all pages within a document.

Can it really not be done any other way? On my prior Canon copier it was 3 buttons to do it. Our new Xerox printer doesn't do it, so we're trying to figure out a way in Adobe or Word.

Acrobat does not provide an option for adding a number when combining files. As such, this has be performed with some type of added functionality. It could be done with scripting.
Do these file have a set length? How do you know what is the first page of each file after they are combined? If there is some way for the script to know where the first page is, then it's easy to script. Otherwise it gets more difficult.

The easiest way is to use the bookmarks that are created when combining files.
