This seems to either be an extremely difficulty issue or such a simple problem that no one will answer. I have been seaching for weeks to answer this exact same question, with no response ANYWHERE! I also am a beginner, and would like to have this same exact question answered. If anyone comes across this post and has the skill to answer this quetion please please reply.

Hope these help - this was a ridiculous problem for me as well.
In AS3 you can create a new Soundtransform, set volume to 0 and you are done...
I don't have the code right here but it's something like this:
var mySoundTransform:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform();
myNetStream.SoundTransform = mySoundTransform;
