Incorrect DateTime in EXIF info (Samsung S9+ Front Camera)

    maxw58450824 Level 1

The original file from Samsung S9+ Front Camera has in JPG correct DateTime in a file (EXIF).

All files exported in Lightroom 8.0 from Samsung S9+ Front Camera to JPG has incorrect DateTime because it is a current date + orginal time :-(

Files exported from Rear Camera are OK ;-)

Note that the EXIF field DateTime is defined by the standard to be the date/time that any photo application modified the photo (including creating it) -- it is not necessarily the capture date (when the shutter was pressed).   The EXIF field DateTimeOriginal contains the capture date.

When a camera first creates a JPEG, it typically sets DateTime to the same value as DateTimeOriginal. But when LR exports a photo, it sets DateTime to the current time, as specified to the standard.

I have a jpg file from Samsung S9+ Front Camera. EXIF info (from IrfanView):

            DateTime - 2018-08-13 08:26:59

            DateTimeOriginal - 2018-08-13 08:26:59

            DateTimeDigitized - 2018-08-13 08:26:59

Then I imported file to Lightroom 8.0 and exported file to jpg. EXIF info from exported file:

            DateTime - 2018:11:21 13:52:06

Files from Samsung S9 Rear Camera, S7 (front+rear), Canon 6D are correct because in EXIF is DateTimeOriginal and DateTimeDigitized. But files exported from LR only from front camera S9+ has only current export date :-(

Files without correct EXIF info DateTime are incorrectly sorted in Google Photos :-(

              What are your export settings?

What other EXIF info is being written to your exported JPGs?

The most efficient way to troubleshoot this is to upload to Dropbox or similar a sample JPEG from the front camera that has never been imported into LR. Post the sharing link here.  We can then determine whether the problem is specific to your LR configuration, a bug in LR, or the JPEG (it's not uncommon for Android photos to fail to conform to industry standards).

The problem is that the original JPEG doesn't conform to the EXIF industry standard -- it's storing EXIF:DateTimeOriginal in an invalid format. I forgot that I had diagnosed the same problem with the S9+ front camera two months ago.  You should report this bug to Samsung. See this thread for details and a workaround: Re: Capture time is not correct with new phone
