Premiere Elements automatically makes backup copies.  You can set the time interval in Preferences.  I have mine set to do it more frequently than the default.

Per Bob's suggestion, if you run into a problem you can then create copy of one of the automatic backups and work with that.

Another thing you can do is "Save As".  I like to do a Save As "filenameVersion2" or higher number every time I'm trying something new and different.

Was it created on the same or a different computer?

No it is the same computer, no hardware changes, only windows updates to the system.

Just a guess:

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.

Thanks Bob for taking the time to offer help with this. I've been through my previous projects and it is just a few versions of one particular one that will not load (had to be the one I wanted to access!). All others work so that one must be corrupted somehow so I will leave things as they are.

Make a copy of your backup file, if you have one, and try to open that one.

Thanks again Bob, I worked around it by going to original video files, will remember to keep backup copies up to date in future.

Sometimes a work around is the only solution.

At least you can edit again.
