I worked on this some more last night and I just can't understand why it's not accepting the string value from the webservice. Do I need to add some type of result clarification on the webservice call?
you have to wait for the web service to return before the result will be loaded. i haven't used WebService, but the way you're using it looks like you expect it to be a synchronous call, where in fact it is asynchronous.
you probably have to register a callback on the complete or result event and set your text there.
Paul is correct. Use a result handler function.
Also, set resultFormat = "e4x". then in the handler, do:
var xmlResult:XML = XML(event.result);
usually you need to check the return type of the webservice(most of the times it returns objects,if no return type is specified). and use the toString() method to convert to text. and then it return the string.
hope the post by paulfeuer is the code that helps you.
