where do deleted files in DW go?

    beatrice
Excuse my humble question, but where do deleted files in DW go?
is there a sort of site trash?
which then needs to be emptied (and moves the content to the finder's trash)?

      bye,

If you're on Windows they go in the Recycle Bin, just as any deleted file
          goes.

Nope. Not if they are deleted from the Files panel. They go into the great
            bit bucket in the sky....

Not in DW8. I just pulled a file from the Recycle Bin I had deleted using
DW's File panel. Has that changed in later versions?

It certainly is not there in CS4. I honestly don't know when or even if it
                was changed.

It vanishes in CS3 never to be seen again, its always been like this for me.

Any file I delete from my Files Panel in Dreamweaver CS4 wind up in my
Recycle Bin. I just did a quick test to be sure. I know that I've restored
files and folders mistakenly deleted from my DW Files Panel many times. That
said, there are many anomalous behaviors that occur between Dreamweaver and
the host operating system. The Recycle bin is also not infinite and does
purge itself and it can also contain many files so you need to know how to
locate items inside it. So the test is:

                    1. Delete a file in DW Files Panel
                    2. Select a folder in Files Panel and press F5 to refresh the Panel
                    3. Right-Click Recycle Bin and choose Explore
                    4 Choose View > Details
                    5. Click the "Date Deleted" column to sort the bin

The file you just deleted should appear at the top. If not, there be a
serious problem either with Dreamweaver or your OS.

Al your right, I just had a brain wave about it, and tried it whilst
using a site that *isn't* a network share, and it does indeed go into
                      the recycle bin.

I have always worked on sites that are on a network share, which even in
the OS, when you delete do not appear in the recycle bin... well on a
Windows based system it doesn't, I don't know about Macs.

In Windows, files deleted from a Network share bypass the Recycle Bin
and are "permanently" deleted. Same with files deleted from a floppy
disk and *some* USB drives. That part has nothing to do with DW.

There's the difference. You are absolutely correct. All of my files are on
                          a network share.
