Been breaking my head over trying to get Premiere to use my GPU for the last 2 hours, but to no avail.
Problem:
While rendering or doing anything else in premiere the CPU usage percentage goes consistently to 100% in the taskmanager, yet the GPU one stays on the ground, while after effects does make the GPU usage rise a fair bit.
Context:
- Premiere Pro 2019 (2018 also doesn't work)
- NVIDIA Quadro P1000, on Win 10 (HP Zbook studio G5)
- CUDA is set as option in the project settings
- Reinstalled official drivers (Clean install optional enabled)
- (Re-)installed CUDA drivers (Clean install not enabled)
- GPU sniffer didn't help
Any suggestions on how to solve this?
Assuming isn't helpful for your working progress. Read up on the GPU use within Pr, it will make it easier for you to structure your machine and workflow patterns for best effect.
Setting up a computer for this complex work is part and parcel of the learning curve.
And no, Pr doesn't use the GPU for straight encoding, that's a CPU/RAM job.

Are you using any GPU Accelerated Effects? If not, the GPU won't be doing much in Premiere.Color work, Warp Stabilizer, such things.

The benchmark activity was only rendering previews, because the unrendered previews were jittery. Yet that should also happen on the GPU I would assume.

Might want to read this doc on what cuda does and does not do:

As Neil and Ann stated, in the effects and transitions panel, you will notice icons next to each item,
if you are not using any effects with GPU acceleration icon, then the GPU will not be used ...

CUDA is set as option in the project settings
If it's on, then it's being used where it can. There's nothing here to 'solve'.
