    Flash Button insert error

    greefkid
      Hi

I currently using dreamweaver 8 on a new macbook. When I want to insert a flash button to page I get the following message : IDS_ERR_UNABLETOCREATEVM. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I've exhausted all avenues!

On a guess- is there a "funky" character in the hard drive name or the
folder names leading down to this local site folder?

such as a leading blank space in the hd name, or punctuation or upper ascii
          in a folder name?

          please do this:
Open a new blank html file using file->new
          -->do not save this file<--

type some text in design view
Select the text, and create a link to this site's "homepage" file using the
folder link icon in the Property Inspector

view code and copy that link's code and paste into reply.
It should be an absolute local path like
          file:///harddrivename/Users/Username/folder/folder/index.html

adobe technote on file or folder names in mac os breaking functionality:

This has been frustrating me for a time now, Has anyone else any ideas other that either buying new package or dumping the macbook?

              Thanks

Dumping the Flash buttons would be a smart move for several reasons. Can
                you?

Preferably not , I would only really want to do this as a last resort. Have you anymore advice???

                  Thanks

If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -

                    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do? Especially
consider those people who are browsing from a corporate internet where Flash
is not allowed by the IT staff.
                    2. Search engines may not parse Flash links - your site will not be
spidered unless you have redundant HTML links
                    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what will those users
                    do?
                    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do? You will have
                    to remake those buttons.

It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons - and for these reasons,
Adobe has removed Flash buttons and Flash text from the next version of
                    Dreamweaver.

Also, since you replied to a very old post, many of us have no idea what
your symptoms are. Care to repeat them?

But the best solution is to not use Flash in this way.

THIS BAFFLES ME ALSO.  I get the same "IDS_ERR_UNABLETOCREATEVM" when I try to create a flash button in DW8.  It comes up at any point that I click on "apply" or "ok" whether I have all information filled or none at all.  I've looked over preferences and anywhere else I can think of.  I've tried to create it on a faux new site also with the same result which tells me it's not my file, it's something in DW.

Incidentally, I have flash loaded and also have a flash navigation, flash movie and 2 flash slideshows on this site.  I can create my own flash button with photoshop files but I would like to use this option simply because it is more efficient... and I hate when I can't figure something out.
