    Space between letters

    nevilletu
I have just started using fireworks so this is probably a silly question. When I enter text it looks like I put a space between each letter. Text looks l i k e t h i s no matter what font I use. Played with kearning which didnt seem to help. What am I missing?

And make sure you are not using Justify Alignment

Tried that but it still spreads the text. Another thing. I have to hit the space bar twice to get a space between words.

Tried which? Both suggestions? What font are you using? What version of
Fireworks? Can you post a link to the png file?

The file can be downloaded from http://www.projectperfect.com.au/fireworks.zip I am using fireworks mx and the font is Arial Black size 9 although I have tried a number of fonts. I had been using Paintshop Pro using Aerial Rounded MT Bold which I didnt have on Fireworks but this was close. Unfortunately, the client wants to use Fireworks which I have not used before. I am trying to make some images to use for headings on a web page. The yellow background is intended to be used in a number of headings with different text. At this stage it is much longer than I want due to the text being so spread out.

                    nevilletu,

Your 'Text Orientation' is set to 'Vertical - Left to Right'. You can
make these changes to your existing text.....

                    http://tinyurl.com/hultm

Or, start new text with the settings changed.

This should be available for Fireworks also.

There is nothing unfortunate about using Fireworks, other than the fact
you are stuck with a much older version. ;-)Take the time to learn the
app and you'll see why it's so popular.

As for the graphic, your text orientation is vertical rather than
horizontal - that is why you are getting the gaps. Set the orientation
to horizontal, change the alignment to left or center and set your
                      kerning back to 0.

Thanks a lot guys. That solved the problem. I would never have found that one. Incidentally, I did not mean it was unfortunate that I was using Fireworks rather than Paintshop Pro because of the functionality. I meant it was unfortunate that the client wanted someone with no Fireworks skills to use the product. I am sure Fireworks is an excellent package. I use Dreamweaver and love it so I am sure Macromedia would produce an equally good graphics package.

Glad we could help. Keep brushed up on those FW skills . . . it'll come
                          in handy. :-)
