    Dropdown Menus

    Big_Foote
I'm using Dreamweaver and Fireworks 8. I've designed my site with, slices, links and everything. Put it into Dreamweaver, no problems. Now I am changing one of the buttons to a dropdown menu. I go to the table in Dreamweaver to edit it in Fireworks. I change the button in Fireworks, everything is fine. Then hit the Done button. In Dreamweaver, after saving the template update, I can go to any page and the dropdown menu is not a dropdown menu. The dropdown list is on the bottom of the page as simple links, no dropdown attributes. It should be a dropdown from the Options button. Any suggestions? You can see the results at http://greatbuywebhosting.com/AlienAuto/index.htm

You have to add the drop down menu to the page in Dreamweaver BEFORE
converting the page to a template.

Boy, what a weird way for that to work, but it does work. Infact you can make changes to the button after turning it to a template with no problem. Go figure?

Thank you for your help, Linda.

There are quite a few things wrong with those FW menus, though. You should
really consider more effective and efficient methods. Is it too late for
              you?

No, it not too late to change. After all, this was a test to see how DW and FW work together. I always like to try new things. Unfortunitately this is not working out the way I had expected. It should work with the template and one of the bugs of FW.
I will do some more experimenting.

It's not a bug. You have to thoroughly understand the way Dreamweaver
templates work, and the way that Fireworks and Dreamweaver interact,
before you use them together in that way.

Check the uberlink and McFly tutorials at PVII
                        ( http://www.projectseven.com/)

and the Navbar tutorial at Thierry's place ( http://www.tjkdesign.com)

Or to get it done fast, go here -

                        http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/navigation/auto_hide/index.htm

It is best practice never to use an all javscript menu like DW and FW<8
produce, and the new ones that FW8 does are hardly better, although not
suffering from all the maladies of the previous version.

So, I was reading some of the posts about drop down menus in Fireworks. I have the same problem - I made some drop down menus in Fireworks, exported the file and it works fine - for that one file alone.
If you save a version of it to another folder they TRY to work, but things get all gobbly; paths don't work, background colors disappear, etc. In subordinated or copies of the page I tried re-setting the path to the generated mm_menu.js, but that doesn't work either.
Is there no way around this from Fireworks? I just already put a lot of time into that file.
                            Many thanks.
